The basics in one minute

  • Size: about one tenth of the scanning distance for a short link, never under 0.8 inch in print. Long links and logos need more.
  • Contrast: dark code on a light, plain background.
  • Quiet zone: a blank border of about 4 dots around the code.
  • Dynamic beats static for print: shorter links, smaller codes, and you can change the destination after printing. See the dynamic QR code generator.
  • Call to action: tell people what they get for scanning.
  • Track by area: a different code per route or neighborhood shows where responses came from. See how to track EDDM by route.

More guides arrive every week: static vs dynamic codes, serialized QR codes and QR code tracking.
