Door hanger and EDDM tracking for roofing companies
After a storm every roofer is on the same streets. Find out which neighborhoods actually book inspections from your door hangers and postcards, and prove your crews covered them.
Map the routes in your service areaWhy roofing marketing is hard to measure
Roofing demand comes in bursts. A hail or wind storm hits a few ZIP codes, and within days homeowners get door hangers from half a dozen companies. Weeks later, an insurance approved replacement closes, and nobody remembers which hanger started it.
On top of that, storm canvassing is spread across crews and contractors. If a neighborhood produces nothing, you do not know whether homeowners were not interested or the hangers never made it to the doors.
What roofers should track
| Signal | Why it matters for roofing |
|---|---|
| Hangers delivered per zone | Proof that crews actually covered the streets, with time and location |
| Scans per zone | Early interest, usually within days of a storm |
| Inspections booked per zone | The first real conversion |
| Claims approved and jobs signed | Where the revenue is; one replacement pays for a lot of hangers |
| Days from drop to scan | How fast to follow up after a storm |
A worked example: after a hail storm
A roofing company sends two crews to hang 2,400 door hangers across 4 zones after a hail storm, then follows up two weeks later with an EDDM postcard to the same areas.
| Zone | Hangers delivered | Scans | Inspections | Jobs signed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 (hit hardest) | 600 | 42 | 15 | 4 |
| Zone 2 | 600 | 18 | 6 | 1 |
| Zone 3 | 600 | 11 | 3 | 1 |
| Zone 4 | 210 of 600 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Illustrative numbers. Zone 1 produced most of the work, so the follow up postcard goes there twice. Zone 4 looked dead, but delivery tracking shows only about a third of its hangers went out. Before writing it off, finish delivering it. Without delivery proof, that zone would have been dropped for the wrong reason.
Choosing areas after a storm
Follow the storm path
Use public hail and wind reports to find the affected ZIP codes, then load them on the EDDM route map to see routes and home counts.
Favor owner occupied homes
Homeowners file claims and sign contracts; tenants usually cannot. Neighborhoods of single family houses respond best.
Move fast, then repeat
Door hangers in the first week, an EDDM postcard two to three weeks later, and a third touch for the zones that responded. Most roofing jobs need more than one touch.
Hang around your jobs
Every job site is marketing. Hang door hangers on the surrounding streets with “We are replacing a roof on your street this week” and a QR code for a free inspection.
Door hanger tips for roofers
- Lead with the free inspection, not the price.
- Say the storm date (“Hail on April 12? Free roof inspection”) so the hanger feels local and urgent.
- Show licenses, insurance and local reviews to stand apart from out of town storm chasers.
- Put one QR code per zone next to the offer, at least 1 inch square. Check yours with the QR code size checker.
- Respect local rules on soliciting and never put hangers in or on mailboxes.
How TrackFlyer fits a roofing company
- One tracking QR code per zone or per mail route.
- Crews log door hanger drops with GPS on their phones, offline friendly, so you know which streets were actually covered.
- Scans, inspections and signed jobs on the same map, so you can see where to send the follow up postcard.
Frequently asked questions
Do door hangers work for roofing companies?
Yes, especially right after a storm and around active job sites. Results vary a lot by neighborhood, so track each zone separately.
How soon after a storm should roofers canvass?
As soon as it is safe and allowed locally, usually within the first week, followed by a mailed postcard two to three weeks later.
How do I know my crew delivered the door hangers?
Use GPS proof of delivery: crews log each drop or their route on a phone, and you see covered streets on a map.
Should roofers use EDDM?
EDDM works well as a follow up after door hangers, because it reaches every home on the affected routes without a list.
How do I track which zone a roofing job came from?
Give each zone its own QR code and ask every caller which hanger or postcard they saw, then log signed jobs against the zone.
